autumn in new york, why does it seem so inviting?

october mindset

living in the midwest means it doesn't begin to cool off until, well, now. so it actually felt like august here up until last week. i'm not a heat kind of gal, especially past the month of july. autumn to me brings such a sense of relief, romanticism, and happiness that's difficult to find elsewhere. i love halloween, but i also love the strange limbo after it passes and before thanksgiving arrives. to me, this is the most peaceful few weeks out of the year.

why does halloween not feel like halloween anymore?

i have two answers for you. one, you're unfortunately not a kid anymore, so things just don't feel as real anymore. it's hard to be completely immersed in the halloween feeling, because you know it's not real. you also can't go door to door asking your neighbors for candy as an adult, which totally sucks. but there ARE things you can do to stop dreading nostalgia!

creating your own halloween traditions

  • watching scary movies by yourself or friends
  • baking halloween themed foods & desserts
  • creating a designated autumn/halloween playlist
  • research local cryptids & legends, then head out to explore
  • currently watching/recently watched
    • when harry met sally
    • the descent
    • romy & michele's high school reunion
    • they live
    • one tree hill (currently on s6)
